This antique French fabric, dating to around 1830 or earlier, It's a very early fabric, and I KNOW I've come across it before in one of my many museum jaunts, but my 57 years old brain is having trouble recalling! The Harlequin pattern is a very rare find! I found a collection of pieces, to view the others simply search my store for the word Harlequin and they will appear! ~*~ ~ This fabric is a lightweight linen-cotton blend, hand block printed with incredible artistry. The design includes scenes inspired by the Commedia dell’Arte, with a harlequin figure and a pastoral couple, evoking the playful and romantic spirit of the early 19th century. Fabrics like this were created for the most elegant interiors, often used as decorative panels, wall hangings, or fine drapery, bringing beauty and storytelling into everyday spaces. The early 1800s saw a love for patterns like this, combining theatrical and romantic themes It’s such a joy to imagine how this fabric must have added drama and charm to a grand French interior so many years ago. While this fabric is no longer strong enough for sewing or projects (please see condition details), it’s absolutely perfect for framing, historical study, or as a treasured piece in a collection of rare textiles. MEASUREMENTS Approximately 24 inches by 23 inches. CONDITION This fabric is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. It is very brittle and tearing easily, with no strength left for projects or sewing. There are many small tears, some holes, and overall fragility. Because of the delicate nature of this fabric, it will be mailed in a mailing tube, so please be cause when opening! ~*~ It's is perfect for framing, historical study, or adding to a collection of antique textiles.
