Welcome to The Textile Trunk ~ Thank you for over 25 wonderful years of helping bring these beautiful antique textiles and decorative items to life again! This is one of the most spectacular curtains I’ve ever come across ( I have 2 matching, to view the other simply search my store for the word heraldic and it will appear! ) A once in a lifetime find. Found in America, but almost certainly European in origin. Dating to the late 1800s Arts and Crafts period, this large, regal panel is made from a lush golden amber silk velour velvet and the embroidery is entirely hand worked. The center bears an appliquéd and embroidered crowned monogram in richly shaded golden silks, surrounded by a lower field of stylized acanthus and scrolling foliage with heraldic crests—alongside prancing animals and floral forms. The border is equally ornate, with beautiful emblems repeating vertically up both sides! This find is nothing short of astonishing ~ The entire panel is dripping in historical atmosphere ( and importance) and ornate handwork, right down to the original twisted gold fringe, which measures approximately 7 inches long. This piece was most certainly custom-made for an estate, private noble residence, or possibly a grand American Arts and Crafts interior reflecting European aristocratic taste. Approximately 12 pounds of amazing beauty!~ This incredible textile would be stunning as a dramatic wall hanging, headboard panel, or a statement piece above a doorway or mantel! MEASUREMENTS: Approximately 102 inches long by 70 inches wide. The lower fringe measures an additional 7 inches. CONDITION: This textile work of art is in excellent condition for its age. Some areas of the metallic embroidery have unraveled slightly, and there is gentle fading across the surface, especially toward the center panel. The backing has some minor marks from time and storage. These signs of time and use are part of its journey, adding to its authenticity as an antique textile.
