Description
This auction is for a 1980 Celestron (Torrance, California, USA) Celestar C90 photographic mount plate adapter. It is all original and will come with both original #6-32 aluminum mounting flat screws. This piece you see here, the photographic mount plate adapter, is the essential accessory that allows your USA-made C90 optical tube to mount to any photographic tripod OR #1/4-20 photo imaging accessory mount (think Orion's 1/4-20 Adapter for the EQ-2 or Vixen's Tube Ring 1/4-20 Plate). It can also mount to your Meade, Celestron, or Orion piggyback adapter so your C90 can ride atop your C8, or for the radical telescope owner, your Meade 2120. Without this underside plate, mounting your C90 is a real challenge because Celestron NEVER offered this as a replacement part. The only way to get one loose is to remove it from an existing vintage C90. And because of the USA-sourced C90's tapered shape, placing it in conventional tube cradles is not possible. Every C90 ever made in the USA came with this mount plate. It serves (2) purposes: It serves as the means to mount your C90 to a #1/4-20 photographic pan head and it covers the (2) tiny setscrews that: (A) Lock the helical mechanism in place and prevent the operator from accidentally separating the mirror cell body from the corrector plate body. (B) Allows for increased/decreased friction adjustment. From 1978-2000 this plate appears on the underside of ALL models of the C90 and all came with the same color (light black), had the same size dimensions, weight, and have the EXACT same bolt patterns for mounting. The ONLY difference ever on these units was: 1) When the black gloss and all Rubber Armored C90s came with the upgraded multi-coatings on the corrector; in that instance the plate has the distinct decal "Special Coating". 2) By 1985, the serial numbers of the C90 were relocated from the brass decal strip by the focusing mechanism to being located in a slightly recessed, oval mold on these adapter plates. It is here where the serial decal was placed. So, if you have an older C90 that predates or does not come with the Special Coatings, you can simply remove this decal and it will then be to-code. And the same can be said for the serial number; it can merely be removed with a small razor since the odds of your C90 and this serial being a true match are virtually impossible. Size: 2.01-inches L x 1.82-inches W x 0.49-inches H Bolt pattern: (2) #6-32 philips flat machine screws 1.00-inches apart Central threaded hole: #1/4-20 threads Materials: solid cast aluminum with aluminum screws Weight: 1.2 ounces To reiterate, this plate will work only on the Celestron C90s made in the USA. This plate will not mount to your C90 made in China, your Meade ETX-90, or even the older Meade 97 Series maks. Why? Their plates are unitary to that tube's design OR they are adhered with a strong, epoxy adhering agent. Yes, this includes modern 90mm maks from brands like Orion, SVBONY, Sky-Watcher, Bresser, National Geographic, iOptron, and even Kson. The Celestron C90 this plate will fit to: * orange models both Astro, Spotter, and the f/5.6 (1978-1984) * Brass Astro model "good luck!" (1980-1984) * black matte telephoto models (1982-1985) * Rubber Armored model (1986-2000) And above all; if you are going to use this on a non-C90 model, make sure you check those measurements I gave you firsthand. This auction ad was completely, organically written by Veradale Mobile Observatory, not an A.I. software device; an actual honest-to-goodness, real human with over 20 years experience with now over 1000 telescopes made from today and all the way back to 1948. Packed with great care.
