Description

This is a block of twelve Confederate States of America 10-cent stamps arranged in two rows of six stamps each. The stamps are printed in a deep blue color and feature the same portrait in an oval frame with ornate scrollwork. Each stamp shows "POSTAGE" at the top and "10 CENTS" at the bottom within the decorative frame. What makes this piece particularly interesting is the imprint at the bottom which reads "KEATING & BALL, Bank Note Engravers, COLUMBIA S.C." This indicates these stamps were produced by Keating & Ball, who were Confederate stamp printers based in Columbia, South Carolina.
