From the late 19th to middle 20th Century, several denominations built and operated small rosters of chapel cars which could travel from town to town to spread the gospel, provide baptism and other special services and serve the humanitarian good. Services were even conducted on board during travel with all passengers invited to attend. The railroad seemed to touch every aspect of life - even the spiritual.
