The story begins in the late 1970s, as the shockwave from the Sex Pistols' 1976 London debut finally hit Japan. Jibiki, completely immersed in the new punk rock movement, began his journey as a photographer in 1978 after discovering the band Koutokage (later Lizard) through a small zine. He quickly became an insider and a crucial participant in the Tokyo underground, even founding his own influential indie label, Telegraph Records. Originally published as a special edition of the renowned Music Magazine, this book documents the dawn of the Japanese punk scene from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s in both photos and text. It captures the raw power of iconic bands such as Friction, Plastics, P-Model, Aunt Sally, INU, The Stalin, Jagatara, Hijokaidan, Guernica, and more. As Jibiki writes in the foreword, these photos capture "rock as an expression of raw energy." You can feel that unique underground tension and vibrant youthfulness bursting from every page.
