That is, if the root ball of your tree is ~20” in dia., then a 36” is recommended. People plant trees with the intention to grow them to maturity and get the maximum benefit out of them. One year may not be enough for the trees to become established. Trees need to grow roots into the surrounding soil in order to become established. Mere survival doesn’t mean the tree will actually grow and thrive. By covering the surrounding soil, Tree Mats promote healthy outward root growth for faster and healthier tree growth. Leave out year-round - even in frozen climates! Tree Mats will refill themselves with snow and rain while protecting your plants against freezing temperatures and deicing salts! Cover with wood chips or coarse-structured mulch to help prevent direct sunlight exposure, while returning nutrients to tree roots, reducing evaporation, providing insulation to the root system, and keeping the mat from getting stolen! Do not use dirt/soil/fine sand/fine-structured mulch to cover Tree Mats because the small particles may block rainwater! Soak it, set it, and forget it! Choose the size Tree Mat that’s right for your plant, soak Tree Mat in water for 1-3 hours, set it around the plant, and then forget it! When sized and used as directed, Tree Mats will typically function for up to 30+ days without watering and maintain effectiveness for years with as little as 1” of rainwater per month. You could go months or years without refilling! When soaking, avoid swimming pool water as it may contain dissolved solids and salts. SOIL MOISTURE STABILIZER - Tree Mat prevents soils from getting too wet (root rot) or too dry (tree suffering). Soil will remain at a healthy, moist level for the tree to thrive. If the soil seems too dry, observe how the tree is doing or use a moisture meter to measure. A moisture rating from 4 to 7 (out of 10) is ideal for most tree species to thrive! Tree Mat has a weed barrier top layer to eliminate unwanted weeds and prevent opportunistic plants from growing around the root system and stealing water and nutrients. I don’t know what happened but, no tracking data between 2/28 and 3/8. Seller sent message on 3/8 saying item has been shipped. Same time, first tracking data appeared saying item delivered 3/4, not so. Contacted seller and was advised another item will be sent. Received item 3/13. Not a good transaction. Seller/USPS fault????
