Description
This is a 1978 Sony Walkman TPS-L2. It is a variant 2 of the original Walkman model because it does not have "guys and dolls" on the headphone input jacks and the front of the case has the earlier design on it with stereo instead of Sony Walkman on the case door. This model has been serviced. The belts, pinch roller, and rubber wheels that move the drive mechanism and reverse have been replaced. I've also re-lubricated the mechanism. The microphone works, a great feature to prank friends and co workers when plugged into the home stereo equipment. The worn out motor that came with it was replaced with a like-new motor that performs much better and wobbles a lot less making music much more enjoyable to the listener. The left and right channels are balanced and did not need to be fixed. The wow and flutter is slightly noticeable but it's better after re-lubricating moving parts. De-Oxit was used to clean the volume sliders for a better clean sliding connection. The sound would cut in and out along with scratching noises before cleaning down the volume sliders. They now perform as originally intended with a smooth volume slide. The tape head was realigned along with a demagnetizing tape and 91% rubbing alcohol plus q-tips to clean the tape head for optimum playback frequency. The tape speed was adjusted. This model also comes with the original case which helps protect it while in use. More importantly, the model serial number is 58,414. This makes it an early model made out of around 500,000 units. Each one has their own specific number to it to tell you if its either the first Walkman ever made of this model, or the last model ever made. Important: The original battery housing was replaced due to corrosion build up. It was swapped with a donor TPS-L2 that had a clean battery housing with a close low number to the original. The replacement serial number is 65,648. I will send the original battery housing for proof of the original serial number. What makes this specific unit very intriguing is the fact that it comes with a working original pair of Sony MDR-3L2 headphones with the original foam on them. The plastic shows no sign of breaking but I should warn of using them as your main pair because the plastic is currently 47 years old and the speaker quality is not the highest to listen too, great for collecting though. It also comes with the original cassette carrying pouch used with the included carrying cable. The Sony Walkman TPS-L2 is a great model for regular use on the go, in your vehicle, or at home. You can plug the Walkman into your vehicle with the power of the aux cable and gives the listening experience an analog sound. What makes this model particularly great for regular use is the fact that not only is the main unit made out of metal protecting the internal mechanism, but also comes with the protective case that will protect both the paint and the metal from any damage. The strap when out and about is highly recommended as to not rip the belt slip off due to the material used and it's age of being 47 years old. The strap allows you to hold it around your shoulder without breaking anything and is easily detachable. If you have any questions feel free to message me about the walkman.
