grandpa don’s mostly movados Make/Model/Serial Number: Heuer "Stowa" Gold Filled, 17-Jewel Pocket/Purse/Table Top Sliding Watch (Similiar to Movado's Ermeto) W/Brown Leather Encasement Description: The Vintage Heuer “Stowa” is a 17-Jewel Pocket/Purse/Table Leather Case Watch – a quite rare and collectible timepiece from the early 20 th Century. Made by Heuer (a German company located in Pforzheim and founded in the 1920s), this Art Deco-style timepiece is ultra unique and quite rare. Housed in a gold-filled metal frame, this piece exudes a sense of vintage charm and nostalgia. Perfect for collectors or enthusiasts of unique and stylish timepieces, this Stowa is a timeless treasure that adds a touch of elegance to any space. Like the Movado Ermeto, this watch/clock self-winds by gently sliding the case open and closed. This mechanism works flawlessly and smooth. Heuer received a patent in 1953 for an arm flipping out resiliently upon opening, on which the watch stands. The movement is a Durowe 450 (17 jewels, the escape wheel capped on both sides). The metal stand retracts correctly, and the watch keeps semi-accurate time - on par with a hand-wound watch of this vintage. From my personal collection, i t measures 2.25 " in length closed, 3.35” when opened. As mentioned, and unique to the Stowa, it has gold plated stand the retracts when closed - also has a ring attached to the leather case so you can hang it on a chain . This beauty is approximately 1.35” in height with a depth of .5”, brown textured leather covers the gold case and is in excellent condition without any visible defects, tears or shrinkage – rather unique for a purse/watch of this age. Mechanical sound and Aesthetically Pleasing - there is some noticable wear on the leather case, although there is no noticable shrinkage - an issue with many of this type of watch. The gold filled case shows a bit of wear, although the dial, hands, crystal and crown are all in immaculate condition without damage, noticible wear, scratches or missing numbers and/or indices. This would make excellent gift for the vintage watch collector. Rating System: Keep in mind, light scratching is indicative to stainless steel – and can even be seen on a new watch when using a jeweler’s loop. If you are looking for it, you will see it. Using a jeweler’s loop and using the naked eye give two completely different visualizations. Refurbished watches are not perfect – but should look exceptionally pleasing to the naked eye – thus the rating system that I use: è A Rating of Three (3): some scratching will be visible to the naked eye. For example, deep scratches on the caseback are usually caused by an individual attempting to change a battery without the proper tools or experience. Although lightened through reconditioning, excising these completely could compromise the integrity of the case. è A Rating of Four (4): light scratching on the band and/or caseback may be visible to the new owner but most likely not to others. A condition just slightly below a four plus. è A Rating of Four-Plus (4+): minimal light scratching, if any, on the band or caseback may be present but likely not seen to the naked eye. Watches given this rating have been very lightly used and/or taken very good care by the previous owner. Could easily pass as a new watch. è A Rating of Five (5): The watch is either brand new and never been worn or lightly used but reconditioned with excellent results – any defects and/or scratches have been removed. Please Note: Although any distinction between a new watch and a reconditioned watch with a 5 rating is difficult to discern by the naked eye, we will always indicate if a five is a new or a reconditioned watch. Rest assured, I will never sell you a reconditioned watch as a new, unworn watch.
