Sporting Goods: Vintage Tennis Gear - Spalding - Wood Racket - Original Cover & More - c. 1970 - Rare Group My husband got this group new when he was a teenager. His best recollection puts in in the late 1960's or early 1970's. He used them briefly and then never again, so everything has just been in storage all this time. The wood racket is 27" long overall and says Spalding, Pancho Gonzales Autograph, Fibre Welded Throat, Manufactured by A. G. Spalding & Brothers of Belgium, 4 ½ Light. The handle has the Spalding logo on the front, back and end, with a leather wrapped grip area about 7" long. The original cover has a plaid interior lining and Spalding tag. The exterior of the cover is a canvas or duck material with the Spalding name on both sides in felt or something like it. The original wooden brace has four spring loaded screws/wing nuts at the corners. The vintage yellow can with lid of three Spalding tennis balls is complete (has been opened). Everything in this group is in very good or better condition since it was used so little. There is a bit of normal aging here and there but it’s really in very nice shape for it’s age. This is real quality tennis gear. It is also a very rare group with the original cover, brace and balls. Please see the photo. I’ve provided the information that I like to see when I am buying things for myself, so I hope it’s complete. If not, please email any questions. If you prefer to pick this item up, any of my listings are also available in Bean Station, Tennessee (less than 1 hour NE of Knoxville and 1 hour from the Smoky Mountains). Thanks very much for looking.
