My candid description: This classic German virtual analog synth from 1999 is a multi-timbral powerhouse with more golden yellow than your cheese drawer. While many virtual analog synths of the early 2000s were designed to emulate the sounds of analog synthesis, the Waldorf Q had more of its own distinct sound. What sets the Q apart for me in my own personal use, is that the 16 parts that can be arranged in layers or splits, each being assignable to one of the 3 separate stereo outs. It also has this xmorph feature that lets you morph one patch into another. You could have a sequenced percussion patch, an arp patch, and a lead patch all going to 3 separate effects chains to your mixer. The overall tone and character of this synth can vary greatly as it's very deep and flexible. It can easily go wild with squelchy digital madness, or just as easily you can program beautifully lush and smooth evolving pads. For me, I mainly use it for ethereal backdrops of ambient sound as well as leads. I also have plenty of fun with the supersaw patches and comb filters. I'm selling this synth to get a proper recording setup for recording my father's original music, something higher in priority at this time than keeping this awesome synth. Hope to sell it to someone who will enjoy it!
